Jaeger-LeCoultre claims that guilloche-style machine engraving can be utilized for the appearance of the oceans on the “Earth dial” that is at the middle of their world-time display disc. It isn’t a particularly useful dial center, but it is visually appealing and is precisely what some people feel makes the Geophysic, nicely, the Geophysic. Other Geophysic watch collection themes along that same vein include little points of luminant implemented round the periphery of this dial.On the wrist, you receive a coherently “real” tool watch with the added allure of decoration together with the blue lacquer-covered guilloche partial-globe, precious substances in the platinum case, and of course, mechanical exclusivity in the haute horology motion. Obviously, this all comes at a cost. Future variations in less valuable metal might cost somewhat less, but the limited edition of 100 bits mention Q8126420 Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic Universal Time Tourbillon in platinum is priced at around $145,000. Bucking the current trend in watchmaking in which ‘older’ is hot, but ‘too-old’ isn’t, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso spent the entire year celebrating its 85th birthday using the Tribute Calendar announced at SIHH 2016 — a totally modern, yet carefully maintained icon that we recently had an opportunity to experience in 18k rose gold. A totally gorgeous dual faced watch, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Calendar watch is likely to make fans drool. Even those a bit more tired of this omnipresent Reverso will probably understand that the implementation of watches such as this one is exactly why the line has come to specify Jaeger-LeCoultre, for better or worse.85 years is a very long moment. And in all that time since, the Reverso has largely escaped major alteration to the double-sided swiveling event construction and art deco design language, yielding one of these impossibly classic watches that simply never gets old — rather literally and figuratively. And while it is horribly easy to drop count of the myriad of versions we have seen through the years, 1 thing is certain — the Reverso is a veritable time capsule, precious and readily counted amongst the ranks of other icons such as the Rolex Submariner, Omega Speedmaster Professional, or even the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak — just this watch predates the aforementioned by several decades each.

If you’re paying attention to the dates, then a 1992 release would make 2017 the 25th anniversary of this Master Control collection. The watch we have here is actually part of a trio which comprises the 3 heart complications which have been in the Master Control collection since the start: time and date, chronograph, and traveling time. These aren’t really being tagged as a 25th anniversary set, nor are they being promoted as this, but that is essentially what these watches are and they are only likely to be produced for this particular 1 anniversary year. I’m not going to go too in-depth on both of the other watches in this group, however, the chronograph is still worth a closer look. Even though the time-and-date watch is the one which drew me in instantly, I know a number of people who were all over the moon about the chronograph. It’s a stainless steel chronograph with a two-tone industry dial up for $8,000 — to get that in a vintage watch you would likely be paying 10x, or even more. It is worth noting that this version is 40mm, therefore not modest, and it has a closed caseback, despite the automatic Jaeger motion indoors. The lack of date and the glowing blue accents really put this opinion apart and make it awesome. The last view is your Geographic, which, I hate to mention, just doesn’t do it for me. I like the Geographic generally (I am a huge fan of travel watches), and I even like the 3-9-12 dial design. But, there’s simply too much going on here for a sector dial. You do not have to enjoy the dial layout because of all of the information packed in.Speaking of that, it is probably worth defining here what exactly a business dial is and where it comes from. Loosely speaking, a business dial is defined by and takes its title in the so-called “sector,” that is the central ring on the dial with radiating markers at the hours. In addition to that, sector dials can have additional curricular registers marking out different increments of time, either beyond the sector or in the dial’s border. They’re often two-tone, with the coloration within the sector and away from the sector differing slightly.

The necklace is not quite a beads-of-rice style and personally reminds me of Sinn’s excellent 5-link bracelet, but with a few differences. The middle 3 links are skinnier than the outer two. Additionally, these 3 connections are brushed while the outer links are polished. Overall, I think this gives the watch a new look and is practical too. World timers are made to be worn by globetrotters and an alligator strap (that is what the watch is usually shipped with) doesn’t always do well in humid, tropical climates. A bracelet is much better designed to cross time zones and different climate types. The buckle on the bracelet however, is not to my liking and looks somewhat dated. I think a double butterfly clasp-style buckle would’ve suited this bracelet better.A universe timer isn’t actually a daily wear watch rather than one that is mainstream in appeal. A deceased seconds complication on top of that means that just a collector secure enough in their own tastes and knowledge of watches is very likely to wear you. But if you do happen to enjoy world timers and enjoy any unusual mechanical sophistication for your timepieces, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic Universal Time is a pretty compelling offering. See buyers are becoming increasingly sophisticated and discerning. They no longer simply need a well-made, handsome watch. They need exclusivity and the ability to personalize a watch to their preferences, and that is the reason why the Jaeger-LeCoultre Atelier Reverso app was created. Unveiled last year as part of the Reverso’s 85th anniversary, the Atelier Reverso app allows watch fans to personalize their Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso with dozens of dial up and strap choices. According to Jaeger-LeCoultre, a shocking 5277 mixes are possible.
