IWC affirm their commitment to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation with a new IWC Portuguese Chronograph Classic replica watch, the eighth in the series. The charity reaches out to underprivileged children and young people in the most challenging places throughout the world through sports projects. Although the sale of the Laureus watches raise much-needed funds and awareness for the Foundation, this is no ordinary “charity” collection – every year IWC capture the spirit of the organization by getting the individuals who ultimately benefit from the Laureus Foundation involved in a most suitable and original manner.

Each year a drawing competition is held among the children who take part in the Laureus projects and the winning entry is engraved onto the caseback of that year’s special blue dial IWC Portuguese Chronograph copy watch – a recreation which works surprisingly well. This year the theme of the competition was “Time to play”, and the winning design was drawn by 16-year-old Masha Nikulina from the Russian Federation. Her blithesome scene of children playing in the snow and skiing is replicated to superb effect with an engraving which spans the width of the caseback.

Even if you are not the magnanimous type, the magnificent blue dials which characterise the IWC Laureus watches could not fail to catch your eye. Blue is the colour of hope, hence its inclusion by IWC’s designers – but really, it brings to this series added appeal.

IWC have been sponsors of the Foundation since 2005, and in honour of their association, they produce a special limited edition piece every year. Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen explains: “Supporting the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which has a positive impact on the lives of over 1.5 million children, is something which is very important to IWC”.

This IWC Portuguese Classic Chronograph Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation” watch will be limited to 1000 pieces, each presented on a black alligator strap made by Italian high-end shoe manufacturer Santoni.

This Portuguese Chronograph Classic model is powered by IWC-manufactured 89361-calibre movement, functions are: stopwatch function with hours, minutes and seconds, flyback function, date display and a small hacking seconds which offers precision time-setting. A clean dial is achieved through the use of a combined hours and minutes totalizer at 12 o’clock. The diminutive, appliquéd Arabic numerals, railway-track-style chapter ring and slender feuille hands which are synonymous of the collection are entirely suited to this rich but softly finished blue dial. The traditional arched-edge front sapphire ensures that the stainless steel 42mm case will appear smaller on the wrist, in-keeping with its classical aesthetics.

The original Portuguese models were first manufactured in the 1930’s and those who know this collection will already be smitten by its flawless and timeless charm – it has understated styling, a handsome face and with IWC- manufactured calibres providing the power, these models are hard to pass especially if you fancy stepping away from more brashy sports timers to the much more genteel dress watch/chronograph genre into which blue dial IWC watch replica have slipped their Portuguese models.
